You're right Christmas is secular holiday, it's the birth of Santa Claus. And Easter celebrates the resurrection of the Easter Bunny.

You're thinking of Kansas.

You wouldn't know drive-offs are down to go to any of the gas stations near my house, although beer walk-outs appear to have dropped dramatically. ;-)

I have few regrets in this life, but midnight freezer raids are one idea I wish I had let go up in [medicinal] smoke, those decades ago.

All the more reason to strive for a good and honest life: You never know when a ghost of mischief past will appear before you.

How ya doin, Lou?

Just happy to be back...? I thought Indiana was the dull, black and white portions of "The Wizard of Oz".
Crime levels have significantly dropped since you've left the Orlando area. Drive-offs from gas stations are a thing of the past, as are dine and dashes from the local eateries, and the good citizens of Central Florida are sleeping soundly knowing that no one is raiding their freezers or haresting their "medicinal" marijuana.
Later days dude...

When Cindy Sheehan first arrived on the seen, I loathed her with every ounce of extra energy I had. It wasn't because I hated what she had to say. I hated the fact that she allowed herself to be used by others for political gain while she suffered from the greatest human loss---the loss of a child. I now cheer her because she has told the world what some of us have known for a long time....both the democrats and the republicans are now responsible for the deaths of the american soldiers. both parties put us in the war. the republicans kept us in the war for years. the deomcrats won an election by telling us they would end the war. yet the war goes on. she was a hero.

I graduated from Virginia Tech in 1994. I had some problems with some classmates around 1990. I went to the infirmary, and they hooked me up with a counselor. That helped a little. For the kind of problems that Seung Hui experienced, a psychiatrist would be needed. I don't know ..... he needed to ask for the help. And he would not do that. If there was a clearer procedure, a way of accessing records, or of being more proactive, maybe he would have gotten help. A lot of people seem to have tried to help, but, as was mentioned, some law or legal issue got in the way.

Just unsure about your assessment of Karim Qasim.
Was he any better or worse than Saddam?
Seems on a scale he was slightly better maybe.

Well, that's exactly the point.

At the time, he was considered to be a tyrant and a major threat to our economic security. He wanted to nationalize the country's oil and sell it exclusively to the Soviets.

Saddam was viewed then as a hero, an avenger of the Iraqi people.

Now George Bush sees himself that way.

Can that lead anywhere good?

This, my friend, is one of the finest blog posts I've seen in a long time. Not only do you display the ability to communicate the others' opinions, but you remain clear about your own perspective (thus not assuming some fake objectivity).

More important, unlike so much of the blogosphere, this isn't just commentary on another news item. This was actually news. Please keep up the good work, and your deft touch with words and social interactions.

Just seems a bit ambigious, otherwise an insightful blog
